What is a provisional patent?
A provisional patent allows filing without any information disclosure. It also allows the term patent pending to be applied. A provisional patent cannot be filed online and must be filed with the USPTO.

How long does a provisional patent last?
Provisional patents differ from regular patents in their duration. Provisional patents expire within 12 months of the date they are filed.

How much does a provisional patent cost?
Provisional patents differ from all the other kinds of patents in that they are a low-cost alternative to regular patents. Provisional patents have a filing fee of $200.
