Trade Search FAQs
Why do I need to do a trademark search?
If you want to determine if another business using trademarks that are the same or similar the one you want you risk being sued. If you are sued for trademark infringement, the least you can be forced to do is stop using the trademark. If you have already created a brand with the trademark, this can become very costly. You could have to change products, letterheads, business cards, signs, advertisements, websites, brochures and more.
Where can I search for trademarks?
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has an online database on their website where you can search for all kinds of registered trademarks. Trademark lawyers can also help you with searching for trademarks.
How do I conduct a trademark search?
Before attempting to file for a trademark, you should research the public database found on the USPTO’s website. You can also conduct a trademark search at one of the Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries in every state.
